in resurgent Pagedale
Pagedale is a small community but emblematic of the challenges facing many inner-ring suburbs. Yet in recent years, city officials and local nonprofits have sparked waves of improvements, as well as new development. Last month, the city installed a monumental welcome sign conceived and designed by architecture students from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.

The awards honor alumni who have obtained distinction in their professional or academic careers. Lucy Mayer Lopata, a longtime friend of WUSTL and a leading local philanthropist, died Friday, May 24, 2013, in St. Louis. She was 98. Throughout her life, she demonstrated extraordinary generosity that was built on a foundation of dedication to all humankind.

This month, all floors of the Kingshighway, Steinberg and Yalem buildings on the School of Medicine campus will be vacant and considered a construction zone. Building access will be restricted to authorized personnel. Demolition of those buildings will begin in late summer.
The current U-Pass — allowing WUSTL faculty and staff free use of Metro, the region’s public transportation system — will expire Sunday, June 30. Benefits-eligible employees may request a new U-Pass for the 2013-14 fiscal year at the Parking & Transportation Services website.
